Governor Abraham Ribicoff's Coffee Cake Recipe

Governor Abraham Ribicoff's Coffee Cake

½ cup (1 stick) margarine
2 eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ pint sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a Bundt pan.

Cream margarine and sugar. Add vanilla extract. Cream. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each egg is added. Stir in flour mixture and sour cream alternately - a small amount at a time - always begin with flour mixture and end with flour. Put half of the mixture into prepared Bundt pan. Add ¾ cup of the topping on top of the batter. Pour remaining batter gently over the topping and the first layer of batter. Cover with the remaining ¼ cup of topping. Bake, testing after 40 minutes.
